Little Sarah’s homespun certitude about both her capabilities to actually be the VP of a country with 300 million people, a country with mega-urban centers, polyglot cultures, disconnected communities and peoples, a country with far-flung foreign policy challenges and deep-seeded class and economic structural nuances, is, quite honestly, appealing. It is patently ridiculous, but, to many, many Americans, it is appealing.
Same was true with George W. Bush. His idiocy was basically a mark of true American virtue (see Know-Nothing).
So I guess McCain’s boys in the backroom really do know their shit. You see, this is even better than Bush. This is a woman. So, when Biden, or Obama, or the press or any other sapient being tries to point out how absolutely clueless, stupid and scary Palin’s ideas are, they are screwed. She’s Annie Oakley. She’s a soccer (or moose hunting) mom. Look at her family – how wholesome! Look at her nice, simple dress - the girl next door! She’s gotta have common sense, right?
And here I was, all ready to characterize McCain and whomever his running mate would be as “McCain/Bush”. I was wrong. It’s “McCain/bush”.
